A Mother's Love

As Mary so many years ago gave birth to a precious child and was most likely experiencing many feelings of blessings, worry, concern and uncertainty so do many birth moms who aren't ready to become a mother yet.  I found this letter to a birth mom and changed it a bit to fit my gratitude to a birth mom......somewhere in Peru.
To the birth mom of my precious child:
"I don’t know your name nor have I ever met you, and most likely won't.  I imagine your pregnancy and birth brought you tears.  You may have feared this with every tiny flutter those months you anticipated seeing your precious baby. You knew the immense cost and care that would be needed, and understood that the only hope for a good life would be in the hands of someone else. Perhaps someone else could lovingly care for this child.
I imagine that held your child at least once and kissed your precious child one last time and your heart broke as you handed your child off to a stranger, slipping away leaving a piece of you behind.
Your precious child is in need of a forever family.  I thank you sweet woman for giving life to this little one of my dreams. I will kiss your child everyday for you.
I promise to tell your child that you left him/her where you believed God would help him/her and God made sure to find him/her a forever home in my family, learning that he/she was created by Him, on purpose.
I will probably never see you in this lifetime but please know that you did the right thing, that your child is safe and loved and that all his/her needs will be met.  You don't know how your precious child has already changed my life.
I can’t hug you, so I will hug him/her."
Feliz Navidad you precious birth mother.  Feliz Navidad my precious hijo or hija.
Love,
Mamma

My "Starfish" Awaits

It was 2 years ago in December of 2010 that God began to really move in my heart that the time for me to adopt was now.  I am so thankful that he not only pulled at my heart strings but has taught me so many lessons about faith and trusting him.  He has given me so many people along this journey to share my story with.  Blessed me with so many family, friends and new friends to walk this amazing journey.  Think today about how you can make a difference is someone's life, whether it's through adoption or being there for someone that is in the adoption process.

The Story of A Starfish

A young girl was walking along a beach upon which thousands of starfish had been washed up during a terrible storm. When she came to each starfish, she would pick it up, and throw it back into the ocean. People watched her with amusement.

She had been doing this for some time when a man approached her and said, “Little girl, why are you doing this? Look at this beach! You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!”

The girl seemed crushed, suddenly deflated. But after a few moments, she bent down, picked up another starfish, and hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied,

“Well, I made a difference to that one!”

The old man looked at the girl inquisitively and thought about what she had done and said. Inspired, he joined the little girl in throwing starfish back into the sea. Soon others joined, and all the starfish were saved.

Adoption Update

I am thankful for God placing adoption in my life. I have just completed yet one more piece of paperwork tonight. Homestudy- done, waiting on the final paperwork in the mail. I-800A just finished filling out all of that paperwork and will mail it once I receive my homestudy. Now it's dossier and grant writing time! I am so thankful God has placed adoption on my heart! Hopefully this time next year I will be sharing Thanksgiving dinner with my son or daughter and making a special Peruvian dish with him/her:) My heart is smiling big! This journey truly began when I was young as I knew one day I wanted to adopt. Just a little over 2 yrs ago while in Nicaragua on a missions trip God showed me that it was time. My first application was mailed to my adoption agency in August of last year. I'm getting closer!

Yesterday I went Black Friday Christmas shopping with my sister Chrissy.  Last year she shared a wonderful book with me and encouraged me to buy it for my child, keeping it until he/she comes home.  On Christmas morning I read that book while sitting on his/her bed and then prayed a prayer for my child.  Now this year it became official, it's now my tradition for my child.  While Black Friday Christmas shopping I bought a second book for my child and will once again read it while sitting on his/her bed and say a prayer for my child on Christmas morning.  I am so thankful for even the little things that are preparing me to become a mom.  I am also so thankful for all of my family, friends and strangers who become friends that are supporting me along this blessed journey!

National Adoption Month

Wow, I guess it's been a while since I have posted anything so I have a lot of info to give to chatch everyone up on what's been going on.  As I think about today, November 1st- the beginning of National Adoption Month I am overwhelmed with feelings of joy, anxiety, greatfulness, worry, and thankfullness just to name a few.  I am amazied at how God has so graciously blessed me with longing to adopt.  I am so thankful for all of you who have prayed, and prayed some more, donated countless dollars and time to help fundraise those dollars.  So many people have been walking this adoption journey with me, you will never know how much that really touches me to know that you are helpin g bring my child home.

I am about to have my last homestudy visit and have now begun working on my dossier.  That means I have started the next step of the mountain of paperwork for Peru to approve me to adopt and love one of their precious kiddos, oh and BECOME A MAMMA:)

God, You Rock!!!

I want to thank everyone for your prayers, words of encouragement and your support since I began the adoption process.  I am so grateful for my friends, family, church family, strangers-or should I say new found friendships who have so generously given so that a child can have a forever mommy!  Thank you SO MUCH for joining me at my spaghetti dinner fundraiser last Sunday.
Every journey to bring home my child is special and God is using it to teach me so many things.  God has assured me that He WILL provide...EVERY penny...in His TIME.  As Sunday morning rolled around I began to stress and worry as I always do.  Would I have enough food?  Will enough people show up?  I hope it doesn't rain and then people won't come out in the rain.  Oh God was just beginning to chuckle at me.  You see, He's trying to teach me that He, NOT ME, loves this child more and wants the very best for this child...and YES, wants this child to have a FOREVER MOMMY.
And through this teaching He is trying to get me to believe that HE has it all under control...tornado warnings, hail, rainbow and all:) happy  While God was having His little chuckle and I was being my stubborn little self, He brought in LOTS of people to eat LOTS of spaghetti while sharing LOTS of laughs and having LOTS of fun times.  Through your love HE BLESSED ME with raising $1100 that night!!!  Praise God!!!
So, YES we had LOTS of friends & family, LOTS of spaghetti....thank you Carman for "going to hail and back" to get a few extra boxes of spaghetti to ensure we didn't run out (my dear friend ran out to Kroger to buy a few more boxes of spaghetti, IN THE HAIL STORM).  Yip you guessed it, we had LOTS of rain, LOTS of hail, a tornado warning that seemed to last forever, and then God blessed us with a beautiful rainbow!  It was quite the show.  I had at least 3 men standing outside watching the sky making sure we were safe.  Then I had 2 people with weather radios listening to make sure the "big tornado" wasn't coming.  And I can't forget the number of people checking their phones for the weather radar.  When will I ever learn that God has it under control.  He was so laughing at me saying, "sista, when will you listen to me?  I said I would take care of you.  I brought you lots of people, now I was just providing a little free entertainment".  Oh how I love you God!

Thank you God for a beautiful rainbow!

Yes that's the hail!

My little Lizzie Bug, Love you!

LOTS of friends & family!

Thanks Derek for serving!  And I can't thank my weather spotter Fred for helping keep us safe during the tornado warning!

My girls-Lizzie, Katie & Hailey love the pink hair!

LOTS of friends & family!

Thank you for sharing this wonderful journey with me!
Much Love,
Angie Staten

More4Orphans Conference

I attended the More4Orphans Conference last weekend and it was AMAZING!  Oh I wish I could have a big ole house and love on lots of kiddos!  There are so many kids, young and old, that need a family, need some lovin.  I encourage you to have a conversation today with God to see what He has in store for you.  Mandy was one of the speakers, I'd like to share some of her words....if you go to 3:15 and watch for a few minutes you will see what God has been laying on my heart.  I hope He tugs at yours too in some way, whether it's to foster, adopt, support others or just to give encouragement to those in the adoption process.
